Think of hydroponics as “gardening without the shovel.” Instead of planting seeds in the dirt, you grow them right in nutrient-rich water. Since you aren’t using soil, you don’t have to worry about digging, weeding, or those pesky soil-borne bugs that like to ruin a good crop. To keep the plants from tipping over, you tuck them into things like little clay pebbles, river rocks, or even coconut fiber. You then mix a special “plant food” directly into their water so they have everything they need right at their root-tips, which often helps them grow faster and stay a whole lot cleaner than they would out in the yard.
