How to Make a Salve
A salve is a semi-solid herbal preparation made by combining infused oil with beeswax for external use.
Best For
- Dry Skin
- Skin Irritations
- Minor Scrapes, Scratches and Cuts
Shelf Life
6–12 months
Basic Salve Method
- Infuse oil: Gently warm herbs in carrier oil over low heat or use a slow infusion method until fully extracted. Honestly, the slow infusion method is best.
- Strain oil: Remove all plant material using cheesecloth or fine strainer.
- Melt wax: Combine infused oil with beeswax in a double boiler until fully melted.
- Test consistency: Drop a small amount on a cold plate—adjust wax if needed (more wax = firmer salve).
- Pour into containers: Carefully pour mixture into clean, dry tins or jars. For best results, use a squeeze type bottle for this step.
- Cool completely: Let sit undisturbed until fully solid before sealing. Do not cover until it is completely cool.
